Chapter 7: Sound of Heaven, Symphony of Earth

by Ray Hughes

There is much we don’t know yet about sound and its relationship to the unveiling of God’s glory. In this chapter Ray
Hughes shares how God released heavenly sounds each time He interacted with mankind in a significant way and He has created each of us to make a unique “sound” that reflects His glory on earth.

The day God chose to create light was the day music began.

Light and sound travel through the medium of waves. Moving light waves are called electromagnetic waves. The wavelength of an electromagnetic wave determines which type of wave it is. As humans, we’re only able to see 3 percent of the entire light spectrum, and part of the 97 percent of invisible light is categorized as electromagnetic waves. Within electromagnetic light exists a range of wavelengths called radio waves. Within this category of radio waves exists an even smaller range of waves that humans can hear.

Essentially, we know that these categories and forms of light and sound fall within the same spectrum. The first time God said, “Let there be light,” (Genesis 1:3), He was also proclaiming the beginning of sound.

We are the only ones made in His image. We are the creatures God chose to give free will to accept or reject His sound breathing in us. The wind does not have a will, and neither does fire nor water. Man has been given a will, because man has been given a soul. Therefore, we have a choice to align our sound with the sound of heaven, while the other elements remain inanimate. Fire simply sounds like fire, wind sounds like wind, and water sounds like water. Man sounds like man, but we have been given the creative ability to release the sound of God.

We cannot begin to understand sound until we realize that we are unable to hear most of the sounds that exist. We are continually in the presence of ultrasonic and subsonic sound waves. “Ultra,” which means “above,” are sound waves above our threshold of hearing. “Sub,” which means “beneath” are waves beneath our threshold of hearing. Just because we don’t see the wind doesn’t mean it’s not there. Just because we don’t hear a sound does not mean it was never made.

Have you ever thought about why there’s such a difference between a guitar and a trumpet? Or how about a trumpet and a cornet? What makes a trumpet sound like a trumpet and a cornet sound like a cornet? It all has to do with the vibrations reflecting off different pieces of matter in the instrument. The vibrations coming out of a trumpet are different from those coming out of a cornet. They have a different rate, frequency or even length. Therefore, a rounder, softer sound out of a trumpet and a higher, more direct sound from a cornet occurs.

The sound produced from an instrument has everything to do with the size and texture of the material of the instrument from which it’s reflecting. Every instrument ever made is unique, for it contains its own sound. Sound through God’s creation becomes individual and therefore, dependent upon the instrument. With our hope for glory—Christ dwelling in us—we produce a sound that’s been in us since the beginning of time. We bring to life the full meaning of Emmanuel—Christ with us, Christ revealed in us. “Then it was revealed in my hearing by the Lord of hosts.” Christ will be revealed as we hear His sound and release our individual, God-appointed sound as His unique instruments.

“Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1: 27). The word “glory” means “lightified.” From this, we can deduce that Christ in you is the hope of being “lit,” or the hope of being “sounded.” Christ is your hope of producing the sound that has resided in you since the beginning of time. Your sole purpose of existence as a worshiper of God is to be the personal instrument He created you to be, and played for His glory. With the very truth of the living Christ is the assurance you will be played before God.

I Corinthians 2: 9 – 10 says, “Eye has not seen nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the very things of God.” As we talk about the sound of heaven it’s essential to understand that our eyes have not seen and our ears have not heard. Our soulish eyes and ears cannot take in the truth of God. But it is His Spirit within us, Emmanuel, that reveals. God desires to release a sound that our personal issues cannot resist.

The sound God desires to release will chase religion from the church and bring truth. He desires the sound of many waters, the sound of mighty thunders, and the sound of His glory and authority in the church.

    Hey there
Was just reading this excert and the physics is not correct. Sound waves are entirely different to light waves. They are not electromagnetic at all like light and radio waves. Sound waves are pressure waves that occur in a medium by oscillating the particles. where as electromagnetism does not need a medium.

    Thanks
    Jason

    • Hi Jason, you are right, sound waves are pressure waves and light waves are electromagnetic waves. I think Ray was making the point that both sound and light have wave-like qualities. Thanks for your comment.

  2. I thought he was just using the word “medium” to mean “form or pattern” of movement rather than referring to moving through medium or material. I did learn from Jason’s comment and Ellyn’s response though….so you both added to the article. Thanks.

Quote: “There is much we don’t know yet about sound and its relationship to the unveiling of God’s glory.” This is a strange statement to make when it is followed by so many statements that seem to say we understand this enough to create a entire doctrine and practice for today’s Church! The frog leaping of “when God create light He created music”, and things like in Col 1:27 that “glory” means “lightified” is totally misleading (glory means “weightiness” primarily). To “frog leap” is to make a statement and then say it means such and such when there is no basis or evidence that it means that, but the uninformed reader will usually accept these “new revelations” because the author is so far advanced than they are and must be right since they are the ones writing this. Since it is your own assertion that we “don’t know yet about sound and its relationship to the unveiling of God’s glory” then how can we be so bold as to proclaim new revelational truth when there is still unknown amounts of ignorance about the true relationship of sound, etc and unveiling God’s glory? Jesus gave us the model to expect: Mk 16:17-18 “In My Name they will…” Simple enough, and they turned their world upside down, where we are in danger of turning truth upside down.

    • Indeed! “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.” Deuteronomy 29:29 The Bible is sufficient. All this messing around with hidden mysteries of God” (i.e. the Occult) is simply the Angel of Light leading people astray by seducing them to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They want to “as gods” to be able to manipulate the elements (i.e. witchcraft) and call it redeeming back. By sticking to the Bible and realizing that it is sufficient for life and godliness, we are not “missing out as if God is keeping something good from us” which is what Satan implied to Eve by the way, we are staying spiritually wise.

      Amen.

  4. I recently had a prophecy about strange things like quantum physics, subatomic levels, frequencies and sound… and God revealing Himself in the middle of it all… and that healing will manifest via creative miracles by speaking to MATTER at subatomic levels. This all blew my mind and was more than I could even attempt to get my mind around. I am not at all scientific, mathematical or medical, etc. So this is literally all foreign to me.

Since that word three weeks ago, all these random things keep coming across my path including your book PHYSICS OF HEAVEN.

And then Don Potter (musician from Morningstar Ministries) spoke about music and Heaven’s sound on Friday night. The message was profound about what the enemy has stolen from the Kingdom regarding sound and music. You may have heard (I had not) that it is believed that Hitler’s propaganda people made 440hz the main frequency used in music since Hitler. They changed it (influenced by the enemy) to set people out of harmony with the earth. God created the earth and everything in it on the 432hz frequency where healing can flow through the music. In 440hz it cannot. Instruments today are all tuned to 440hz. This information blew me away. I shared it with the worship leader at my church and he was blown away too and said it makes perfect sense! He is re-tuning their instruments to 432hz… back to the frequency of GOD!

The very next day I was reading your book and came to chapter 7 about frequencies and read where Ray mentioned that A=440hz. I knew I had to share what Don Potter had just said about that! His entire message can be heard on http://www.morningstartv.com from Friday, Sept 13, 2013. Although a subscription may be needed to view it, I’m not sure.

I’m sharing this with every pastor / worshiper / musician / warrior I can think of! Let’s get our frequency back!

Thank you for your book and this website and letting God use all of you to take us all deeper into the caverns of revelation!

    Mary L’Esperance Held

    • This is so interesting. I’m glad you shared it.

    • I don’t mean to kill your enthusiasm, and I have a huge respect for Don Potter, but this teaching is just flat out wrong. God’s healing can flow through ALL frequencies equally, Hitler had nothing to do with 440 becoming a standard; it was proposed in the late 1800’s and over the years more and more musicians adopted it. It was around WWII that it became basically a worldwide standard, but Hitler would never have even known about it. Numerous symphonies all over the world had standardized to 440 before Hitler was in power.

And there is LITERALLY NO EVIDENCE AT ALL that any of this is true: “God created the earth and everything in it on the 432hz frequency where healing can flow through the music.” God’s creation NOR His healing flow are limited to any frequency.

If you or Don or anyone can please provide any evidence other than this “fake news” story, PLEASE trumpet it as loud as possible. I would LOVE to know about it. Until then, I will continue to go deeper in Him, make the best most expressive music I can, and not be distracted by such trivial matters.

And I want to restate, that Don Potter is awesome, and I so appreciate everything he has brought to the planet…. except for this.

Musician and singer for 25 years.. 440Hz is a sharp pitch that induces early register shift.. down 32 cents at ~A4=432Hz no register shift is needed on a certain note at the passaggios.. this notes differs from singer to singer.. For males that note will sit in the range from C4 and G4 depending on the vocal fach.
This has been documented and proven by opera singers in the 80s. Tuning your A4 to 432Hz is just more natural for most voices.. It does not mean that all music should be tuned to this pitch.. Personally I find 435Hz (former EUropean standard) a better pitch if we need to settle for fixed standard. It has a little lift from 432Hz which suits contemporary music where 432hz can sound a bit too mellow..

  5. I would so love to add something profound to the comments but the only thing I can add is what I have experienced and what I have already heard before. Apparently the Hebrew Language is so unique in that the sounds represented by the old Hebrew Writing (which bye the way gives another layer of depth to the Torah/Bible) can create intricate patterns in sand when spoken through a device which name I forgot but is effectively a drum diaphragm with sand on it. The numerology is also very interesting.

Another thing I have heard is that old cathedrals were built taking into account sacred geometry and its interplay with the original pantonic scale which was different from what we have today. We have forgotten so much of our understanding of physics, sound and harmonics. The battle of Jericho is just one biblical example of how sound was used.

Then experiential knowledge. I don’t know why the veil between heaven and earth gets lifted sometimes, but I have heard Angelic Choirs in my life and I get goosebumps just writing this now. Angels have saved me from a car accident and their accents and formality of speech was very intriguing to me. You could hear that our earthly language was not their own.

Another time I was woken up was I could only describe as a freight train passing through my room. I still don’t know why it happened and wish I had some incredible further story to tell, but i don’t, apart from it actually happening. Also, someone commented on the feeling of electricity passing through your body when awakened at night. I would just like to say that although I have experienced the most intense pleasure during times of reflection/collection/rapture/worship, this experience in particular was not pleasant. The fear of GOD is something beyond what I can express. I can only describe it as feeling though you are being struck by lightning and actually physically dying. It puts the awe of GOD back in you. One thing is sure, put your heart and mind on HIM, seek him and he will reveal HIMself to you.

I pray that he will reveal himself to you in wonderful and mysterious ways. Love you all … Children of light.

  6. Sound…Light…and Motion!

These things have been on my mind for over 5 years now. I’m always engaging the Lord in how they apply to His creation and His Presence.

I see in creation in Genesis
I see it in Pentecost in Acts
I see it in the Gifts of the Spirit in Corinthians

God spoke (sound) “Let there be Light” and the Spirit of the Lord hovered (vibrated) over the waters…putting into Motion His creative power!

There came a Sound of a mighty rushing wind, there Appeared cloven tongues of fire, and the Spirit moved adding many to the church (motion)!

(Sound) 3 gifts say something (Tongues, Interpretation of Tongues, Prophecy)
(Light) 3 gifts reveal something (knowledge, wisdom, discernment)
(Motion) 3 gifts do something (miracles, healings, faith)

I have many, many dreams of playing my Harmonica through a microphone and amplifier. And not just feeling the sound waves, but seeing them as misty waves of Light drawing a crowd and permeating the people. The light waves breaks loose the darkness from with them and revealing His light within. Great deliverance and healing through His song within me!

  7. David Impala says

True worship is not confined to emotions, although these things may feel good, but it is not Biblical. True worship is the acknowledgment of God and all His power and glory in everything we do. The highest form of praise and worship is obedience to Him and His Word. To do this, we must know God; we cannot be ignorant of Him (Acts 17:23). Worship is to glorify and exalt God—to show our loyalty and admiration to our Father. The apostle Paul described true worship perfectly in Romans 12:1-2: “I urge you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable, or well pleasing and perfect.”This passage contains all the elements of true worship. First, there is the motivation to worship: “the mercies of God.” God’s mercies are everything He has given us that we don’t deserve: eternal love, eternal grace, the Holy Spirit, everlasting peace, eternal joy, saving faith, comfort, strength, wisdom, hope, patience, kindness, honor, glory, righteousness, security, eternal life, forgiveness, reconciliation, justification, sanctification, freedom, intercession and much more. The knowledge and understanding of these incredible gifts motivate us to pour forth praise and thanksgiving—in other words, worship! Also in the passage is a description of the manner of our worship: “present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice.” Presenting our bodies means giving to God all of ourselves. The reference to our bodies here means all our human faculties, all of our humanness—our hearts, minds, hands, thoughts, attitudes—are to be presented to God. In other words, we are to give up control of these things and turn them over to Him, just as a literal sacrifice was given totally to God on the altar. But how? Again, the passage is clear: “by the renewing of your mind.” We renew our minds daily by cleansing them of the world’s “wisdom” and replacing it with true wisdom that comes from God. We worship Him with our renewed and cleansed minds, not with our emotions. Emotions are wonderful things, but unless they are shaped by a mind saturated in Truth, they can be destructive, out-of-control forces. Where the mind goes, the will follows, and so do the emotions.First Corinthians 2:16tells us we have “the mind of Christ,” not the emotions of Christ. There is only one way to renew our minds, and that is by the Word of God. It is the truth, the knowledge of the Word of God, which is to say the knowledge of the mercies of God, and we’re back where we began. To know the truth, to believe the truth, to hold convictions about the truth, and to love the truth will naturally result in true spiritual worship. It is conviction followed by affection, affection that is a response to truth, not to any external stimuli, including music. Music as such has nothing to do with worship. Music can’t produce worship, although it certainly can produce emotion. Music is not the origin of worship, but it can be the expression of it. Do not look to music to induce your worship; look to music as simply an expression of that which is induced by a heart that is rapt by the mercies of God, obedient to His commands.True worship is God-centered worship. People tend to get caught up in where they should worship, what music they should sing in worship, and how their worship looks to other people. Focusing on these things misses the point. Jesus tells us that true worshipers will worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). This means we worship from the heart and the way God has designed. Worship can include praying, reading God’s Word with an open heart, singing, participating in communion, and serving others. It is not limited to one act, but is done properly when the heart and attitude of the person are in the right place. It’s also important to know that worship is reserved only for God. Only He is worthy and not any of His servants (Revelation 19:10). We are not to worship saints, prophets, statues, angels, any false gods, or Mary, the mother of Jesus. We also should not be worshiping for the expectation of something in return, such as a miraculous healing. Worship is done for God—because He deserves it—and for His pleasure alone. Worship can be public praise to God (Psalm 22:22;35:18) in a congregational setting, where we can proclaim through prayer and praise our adoration and thankfulness to Him and what He has done for us. True worship is felt inwardly and then is expressed through our actions. “Worshiping” out of obligation is displeasing to God and is completely in vain. He can see through all the hypocrisy, and He hates it. He demonstrates this inAmos 5:21-24as He talks about coming judgment. Another example is the story of Cain and Abel, the first sons of Adam and Eve. They both brought gift offerings to the Lord, but God was only pleased with Abel’s. Cain brought the gift out of obligation; Abel brought his finest lambs from his flock. He brought out of faith and admiration for God.

  8. “Therefore, a rounder, softer sound out of a trumpet and a higher, more direct sound from a cornet occurs.”

Apparently the author is using an example that he doesn’t know much about, because this description is opposite what it should be. The cornet is the more mellow instrument. I wonder what else was missed.

  9. Lowell Shoaf says

Thank You All for your fascinating and heartfelt comments! A couple related thoughts for further comment (I loved the book by the way.) I find myself believing that worship is a/the sound that our heart makes and can also be expressed outwardly. Thoughts?
Also, during my quiet times, I have “discovered” that there is always a sound beneath all the outward, physical sounds. Sort of like a very low frequency “refrigerator” sound. Is it just the sound of “life”, or what would you call it?

  10. timothy waiswa says

sound waves is the recreation of new path for bealievers re gain faith in GOD and act like panel.

  11. Gregory Van Leer Sr says

I was ministering a message on prayer a few years ago and Holy Spirit presented to my spirit this idea of every voice being a frequency like a Fm/Am frequency on the radio. The Father as well as listening to the words your speak in making your request known also knows your frequency. Anyway I don’t profess to know the fullness of the insight but I revisit it whenever it come to my remembrance. Hence this morning while lying in bed wide awoke at 4:30 AM in the morning it came up and I did a little research and come upon this video.
There has to be something about “sound” that we are missing. Consider this: In creating us our Heavenly Father thought it no small thing to make the human voice unique. Do those different tonal qualities have their own frequency of some sort. I have three and sisters and 4 sister in laws and my wife’s voice is distinct from all of them and just a side note; the NSA is able to pick out a voice through all the billions vocal transmissions from around the world.
Why don’t we bother to just ask Holy Spirit….isn’t He the one who reveals of truth …”he shall teach you all things” John (14:26), he’s our helper, the one who makes things known and if He doesn’t reveal it wasn’t for you to know maybe at the time; trust Him to bring it to your remembrance, when He is ready to reveal it to you.
Like some of the commentators we have to be careful mixing a little bit of truth with opinion. Better to just put it out there for discussion first than presenting something as absolute. Be Blessed!

  12. The Lord gave me a word to give my Pastor and worship leader concerning how the sound of praise and worship was going forth from us into like battering ram soundwaves to deafeat the enemy. I pondered on soundwaves, googled it and was instantly lead to this article. Maybe the article is not 100% scientifically correct from man’s viewpoint but it illustrated what God wanted to impart to our church.

  13. Charles Saunders says

When God spoke and said, “Let there be light.”, sound would have already had to exist for God to speak or it came into existence as He spoke. Right?
